Neighbourhood Watch is about building community spirit and fostering good relations among local residents. It brings people together with common goals to tackle crime and disorder, watch out for one another, and keep an eye on each other’s property. By working together as the eyes and ears of the neighbourhood, we can address anything that causes concern or worry. This initiative isn't about being a 'nosy neighbour,' but about being a good citizen and supporting our community.
Building Safer and Stronger Communities
Neighbourhood Watch helps create safer and stronger communities. By joining forces with the police and local partners, we build friendly, active communities where crime and anti-social behaviour are less likely to occur. The entire village of Wilberfoss is covered by a Neighbourhood Watch group, with six coordinators overseeing different areas.

Advice and Support:
Coordinators are there to help and advise residents on what to do in the event of a problem, and more importantly, on how to secure their homes and garages/sheds. Taking simple precautions can vastly reduce the chances of burglary. Wilberfoss, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, enjoys one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Residents can support the police by reporting strange vehicles (make, registration number, location) or people, which helps the police do their job better.
No Cold Calling Zone
In 2011, Wilberfoss Neighbourhood Watch, working with East Riding Trading Standards, successfully set up the whole village as a No Cold Calling Zone. This has significantly reduced the number of traders knocking on doors, some of whom can be shady characters. Any cold callers that do appear are reported directly to East Riding Trading Standards for action. If a cold caller comes to your door, gather as much information as possible—such as company name, telephone number, office location, and the name of the caller—and pass this on to your Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, who will report it to Trading Standards.
